Vitrectomy
Vitrectomy is a delicate eye surgery used to treat retina and vitreous conditions, such as retinal detachment, macular holes, and vitreous hemorrhage. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the vitreous gel in the back of the eye to gain better access to the area needing repair. The removed gel is usually replaced with a saline solution, gas, or silicone oil to help maintain the eye’s shape and support the healing process.
