Robert E. Parnes, M.D.

Dr. Parnes is a board certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in diseases of the retina, macula and vitreous. A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Parnes attended college at the University of Pennsylvania. He later earned his medical degree and pursued his residency in Ophthalmology at Penn State University where he received the Sy Berman Scholarship in Ophthalmology and was honored to be chosen as Chief Resident. Dr. Parnes pursued his fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and Retina Associates of Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Parnes has published many peer-reviewed scientific papers and textbook chapters pertaining to Ophthalmology and retinal disease. He has participated in clinical research trials that have led to advancements in the current treatment of retinal disorders. Dr. Parnes sees patients with a wide variety of posterior segment diseases. His special interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tear and detachment and microsurgical procedures including macular pucker and hole. Dr. Parnes is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Maryland Eye Physician Society.
