On the Cutting Edge of Retinal Health: Mid Atlantic Retina Specialists Use the Latest Treatments

At Mid Atlantic Retina Specialists, we participate in numerous cutting-edge national clinical research studies to offer treatment options to our patients not available elsewhere.
EYLEA HD
EYLEA HD is a prescription medication administered by injection into the eye. It's used to treat specific retinal diseases in adults that can result in vision loss, including wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy.
EYLEA HD is an advanced anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment. It works by blocking VEGF, a protein that can lead to the growth of abnormal blood vessels that leak fluid into the eye, causing retinal damage and vision loss. EYLEA HD allows many patients to have longer intervals between treatments compared to other medications, potentially extending treatment intervals up to 4 months after the initial doses.
VABYSMO
VABYSMO is a prescription medication used to treat neovascular (wet) AMD, diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO). It works by targeting and inhibiting two proteins, VEGF and Ang-2, which contribute to vision loss in these conditions. Like EYLEA HD, VABYSMO is administered directly into the eye. Notably, VABYSMO is the first and only FDA-approved treatment that blocks both VEGF and Ang-2 for wet AMD.
Our Retinal Research
Research is a central part of our care model. To expand access to vision-saving care for our patients, we actively participate in studies to advance the development of new treatment options for retinal diseases, including tyrosine kinase inhibitors and gene therapy, which may allow even longer duration between treatments. We are actively enrolling participants for clinical trials on the following conditions: wet AMD, dry AMD (geographic atrophy), diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic macular edema.
